We want YOU to Choose the Official Glasgow Twestival Local Charity.

The charity with the most votes receives all the money raised from the event!

Charities must
- be a registered Scottish charity (OSCR)
- operate or be based in Glasgow

So the charity could be a local charity which only operates in Glasgow OR a national Scottish charity with a Glasgow branch/service OR a Glasgow-based charity which works internationally.

Funds may not be spent on the advancement of religion or politics (including supporting the core activities of religious or political groups).

You can nominate a charity and/or vote for one of the charities below.

If you have any questions please email: twestival@thirdsectorlab.co.uk

One person = One vote
Please do not vote more than once, it is not in the spirit of the competition.

Voting/nominating closes Fri 31st July 2009 at 12pm (GMT)

Enter the name of the charity you'd like to nominate in the box below. Alternatively vote for one of the charities in the tops ideas section.

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

        • Marie Curie Cancer Care's Big Build Appeal

The Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow, has served the needs of cancer patients for over 30 years. Nursing standards are excellent but our building simply can’t cope and is becoming expensive to maintain.

The Big Build Appeal will build the hospice that Glasgow deserves; providing even more care, support, dignity and relief than ever before.

                • The National Autistic Society Scotland

NAS Scotland is the leading charity for people affected by autism. 1 in 100 people in Scotland have autism. Together with their families, they make up over 200,000 people whose lives are touched by autism every single day.
Despite this, autism is still relatively unknown and misunderstood. Which means that many of these 200,000 people get nothing like the level of help, support and understanding they need.
Together, we are going to change this.

                  • Myasthenia Gravis Association

Myasthenia Gravis is a RARE and severe muscle weakening disease. The Myasthenia Gravis Association is the ONLY charity in Scotland, dedicated to providing expert care, advice and information to those loving with MG and their families.

Because we are a small charity, with a lot of work to do, we are often overlooked. Please help us by voting, any support - however small - means a great deal to us.

Myasthenia Gravis is such a rare disease, so people with MG can feel isolated. It is not uncommon that employers, friends, family and medical professionals just don't understand the condition.…

                                • Contact a Family

Contact a Family Scotland should be official Glasgow Twestival local charity. Never before have I encountered such a dedicated team who genuinely and passionately care not only about what they do, but who they are helping also.

Their family workers and volunteer reps help families with disabled children on so many levels, whether its through organising workshops, offering advice, hosting support groups or working alongside professionals to ensure that our voices as parents gets heard.

                                  • Aberlour RoC (Running other Choices) Project

Running: Other Choices (ROC) is a service dedicated to young people in Scotland, under the age of 16, who are thinking about or have run away.

The ROC service opened in 2004 and provides Scotland’s only refuge for young runaways who feel unable to return home.…

The Big Issue Foundation Scotland (BIFS) is the charitable arm of The Big Issue in Scotland magazine. Over the last 12 years BIFS has developed and supported a range of initiatives designed to address the issues arising from and underlying homelessness. BIFS acknowledges that homelessness and its associated difficulties impacts on families and communities and its effects are often intergenerational. In order to address these underlying issues BIFS is embarking on an entirely new direction through the development of its ‘WITH KIDS’ project initially within the east end of Glasgow. This project is based on a preventative approach and involves…

                                        • LGBT Youth Scotland

LGBT Youth Scotland is a national youth organisation providing a range of services and opportunities for young people, families and professionals and working towards the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people in the life of Scotland.

We provide a range of services and opportunities for young people, families and professionals in order to proactively assist with increasing awareness and confidence, in turn reducing isolation and intolerance.

We support the network of LGBT young people and groups around Scotland and their representatives – the LGBT Youth Council.

We were established in November 1989 by members of the LGBT…
